Rotterdam City Centre? Yes, Naturally!

Rotterdam City Centre? Yes, Naturally! The vitality of Rotterdam’s city centre currently lags behind that of other major cities (City Centre Vitality Benchmark, 2024). BIZ Rotterdam-Centrum, an organisation representing entrepreneurs and property owners, commissioned De Urbanisten to develop a coherent and inspiring vision for the future of the city centre. This vision aims to enhance the quality of stay while promoting a more climate- and nature-sensitive design for both buildings and public space.

In the report “Rotterdam Centrum – Ja Natuurlijk”, we propose a substantial increase in space for plants and trees, structured through a blue-green network of streets, boulevards, squares, parks, and green roofs. The report also highlights a series of promising projects, including the radical greening of the Lijnbaan.

The vision has been embraced by BIZ Rotterdam-Centrum as a guiding framework for the future and has been presented to alderman Pascal Lansink-Bastemeijer. The next step is the further implementation of this agenda.
