Project update | Even during the summer break, progress continues to become visible in Antwerp

At Ringpark Het Schijn, the future landscape is beginning to take shape. The River Schijn has been partially realigned and now flows through its new riverbed which is an important milestone in the transformation of the park.

As the blue backbone of Ringpark Het Schijn, the river is being given more space to function as a resilient, sponge-like water system. By relocating the meander of the River Schijn, we are creating a rich sequence of park and forest biotopes, ranging from wet to dry habitats. The new landscape offers diverse park experiences and dramatic views to and from the water.

To enhance both the ecological and recreational value of the park, two islands have been introduced within the river. Each has its own distinct identity: one as a playful destination and the other as a wilder, more natural landscape that supports biodiversity.
